MOVIES BY THE MARINA - CYM SAN PEDRO TO HOST BEST OF SCHWEITZER LAKEDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

San Pedro, CA – The Schweitzer Lakedance International Film Festival is bringing eight hours of award-winning films from its 2008 event to San Pedro, California on May 28 and 29 of this year. The Plaza Hall, located by Cabrillo Beach and operated by California Yacht Marina, will be converted into a 120 seat movie theater for the two-day event, with organizers providing temporary projection and sound equipment to complete the experience.

Schweitzer Lakedance, is held annually in Sandpoint, Idaho (roughly 40 miles south of Canada and 70 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington), and over 8 days in early autumn plays nearly 60 films of many genres and from many countries. In 2008, it hosted nearly a dozen premieres and welcomed scores of filmmakers and stars to Sandpoint to present their films. The festival brings to the South Bay that same experience as it showcases more than a dozen films which took home esteemed Soaring Eagle Awards from the event, and will invite filmmakers to accompany their film and answer questions following screenings.

“We’re still determining the exact lineup, but each of the four film blocks will be lightly themed and geared towards a rating, so expect a G rated block, PG, PG13, etc.” explained Trevor Greenfield, Schweitzer Lakedance Co-Founder and Director. “With 20 award-winners of this quality, its pretty tough to choose!”

In addition, during daytime hours, the festival will host two seminar-style workshops geared towards educating novices on how to make movies for fun and profit, and dishing out the secrets of the film festival circuit.

Tickets are $8 for each film block, or $6 for marina residents, seniors, students and military with ID. You can get more information as it is announced at lakedance.com or pick up the program at CYM’s San Pedro office in May.
